Disneyland has reopened one of its most popular attractions that puts riders in the driver’s seat of a race car in a head-to-head competition along a fictional Route 66 after billowing smoke forced the closure of the ride for more than a week.
Radiator Springs Racers in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure reopened on Friday, June 3 after a 10-day closure triggered by a smoking vehicle.

The Cars Land centerpiece attraction closed on May 24 after smoke was seen coming out of the back of one of the Radiator Springs Racers ride vehicles after it crossed the finish line.
Radiator Springs Racers was closed indefinitely out of an abundance of caution after an issue with a single ride vehicle, according to Disneyland officials. The popular ride was closed during the busy Memorial Day weekend.
A former Disneyland maintenance worker told MiceChat that the Radiator Springs Racers ride vehicles break down regularly and the cars have circuit breakers that stop the ride when problems occur.
“Tires and engines blow out on this attraction all the time,” the maintenance worker told MiceChat. “It’s just part of the operations of the ride.”
