From samurai armor to rocket parts, Kanamori Alloy makes it all – Nikkei Asia

Japanese company with 300-year history is still learning new tricks
KANAZAWA, Japan — Kanamori Alloy makes aluminum and copper products using traditional sand casting technology. The company, based in Kanazawa on the Sea of Japan coast, has a reputation for craftsmanship built over more than 300 years, fashioning everything from samurai armor to components for Japan’s H-IIA rocket.
In October, it began selling consumer products for the first time since its founding. Its stylish, high performance goods include an innovative kenzan — the spiked metal stands used in flower arrangements — that helps cut flowers last longer, and a plate that keeps sashimi or ice cream cold.
